Summer

Man holding largemouth bass
Largemouth landed before the storm

6/12/2021: I got a decent hour of fishing at Lake Ellerslie in before a pop-up storm hit. Landed one 15 inch largemouth, fought two others. Wacky rigged senko doing its thing…

5/28/2021: I’ve made a few brief trips to local lakes over the last month or two; nothing interesting to report.

I have moved most of the website content to a different platform–it should function similarly and contain all the content that is currently here. I’ll flip that switch in the next month or so.

Enjoy the summer bite!

Website changes coming

I’ll be making some changes over the coming days. Bots have worked relentlessly for years to crack this website, and they managed to crash it a couple of days ago. Anyway, it may look or operate differently in the near future. Thanks for continuing to visit–I’m going to try to keep the same content for you to look at and use.

Spring around the corner

I finally got out for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon. Slow action, but did manage to hook an 18-19 inch largemouth on a wacky rig, drifting in front of a submerged culvert. I got him to shore, started to grab, then he shook the hook and flopped back in the water. Oh well. Fun catching, anyway.

2021

New year, new possibilities…Fishing has been sporadic for the last couple of months. I fished a private lake with a cull order for bluegill and crappie (don’t release any/harvest all). I obliged the rules by catching about 20 smallish bluegill in about 15 minutes with a worm and hook.

Other than that, pretty quiet, recently. I need to hit up the sauger this month. Tell us what you’re catching in the comments!

Summer 2020

9/2/2020: It has been a quiet couple of months since my last post. I did manage to get out a few times locally, with no results. I spent a week in Isle of Palms, SC at the end of July and fished most days I was there. No big stories–some whiting, a small stingray, one red drum. Hopefully temperatures will break a bit soon.

7/5/2020: Two hours on Ellerslie produced five quality bass, throwing a wacky-rigged pumpkinseed senko worm. My best day in ages, my best bass of the last year, at least.

6/14/2020: I took my kayak out on Lake Ellerslie yesterday morning. I managed to land two largemouths and a bluegill on a chartreuse grub jig. What started out as a very calm day turned windy, though. There were whitecaps on the lake, coming at me from the direction of the launch. I paddled the mile or so back in the wind–it was a workout. Still nice to get out…

Almost Spring

3/7/2020: It’s been a slow winter on the fishing front. I went out last weekend in the nice weather, hitting Scott County Park, Lake Lusby, and Robinson Dam on the Elkhorn. One bite, no fish. I didn’t see anyone else catching at those places, either. Hopefully the warm-up will kick-start fishing in the coming weeks.

Cold weather fishing

12/28/19: Two days of fishing, zero fish. I checked out both Sportsman’s Lake in Frankfort and the Kentucky Horse Park’s Rolex Lake. A few strikes at Rolex, no fish. I tried various lures and red worms, still nothing. Oh well…

11/28/2019 Trout have been stocked in several FINS lakes over the last month. I tried to cash in at the Horse Park over the weekend, but no fish. There were probably 10 others fishing there, and I saw about half catch a fish or two. Corn was popular, and another angler told me chartreuse and orange spinners were working. I’ll try again soon…

September

9/1/2019: I got out for a few hours this afternoon to Lake Ellerslie. Using a rainbow colored roostertail, I landed two 10-11 inch largemouths and one 12-inch crappie. Using a chartreuse jig, I caught several small bluegill as well. It was a nice few hours on the water.
